The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that beginning September 30, 2025, the Federal Government will stop issuing paper checks for most benefit payments, including Social Security, Veterans benefits, and other Federal payments. This change will require those who still receive paper checks to switch to direct deposit or another electronic payment method.
For most Americans, no action is required, as benefits are already received electronically. However, those still using paper checks are encouraged to make the transition now to avoid any disruption in receiving their payments.
Minnequa Works Credit Union is ready to support members during this transition. The credit union offers its Overtime Checking Account, which provides:
- Direct Deposit Access for Federal Benefits and Payroll
- BankOn Certification, ensuring safe and transparent service
- No Overdraft fees
- Interest earnings on account balances up to $5,000*
Paper checks are going away, but peace of mind doesn’t have to. At Minnequa Works Credit Union, our accounts give Members a secure, convenient way to receive their benefits on time and without worry. We are here to walk our Members through the process and make sure they are ready well before the deadline.

Members interested in setting up direct deposit or opening an Overtime Checking Account can stop by any Minnequa Works branch, call the credit union, or visit mymwcu.com
For those who need to enroll in direct deposit directly with the Federal Government, additional resources are available at GoDirect.gov or by calling the Electronic Payment Solution Center at 800-967-6857.
