Partnership delivers critical funding to United Way of Southern Colorado to assist families impacted by the Aspen Acres Fire
Pueblo, Colo. — Minnequa Works Credit Union is proud to announce a $60,000 contribution to United Way of Southern Colorado to support families and communities impacted by the Aspen Acres Fire. The funding was made possible through a partnership between Minnequa Works Credit Union and the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB), extending the resources available to assist Southern Colorado residents as recovery efforts continue.
The $60,000 check was formally presented to United Way of Southern Colorado on July 27, 2026, building upon Minnequa Works Credit Union’s ongoing response to the Aspen Acres Fire and its commitment to standing alongside the communities it serves during times of need.
“Southern Colorado is our home, and when our neighbors face a challenge of this magnitude, we believe it is our responsibility to step forward,” said Nathan Cape, CEO of Minnequa Works Credit Union. “We are incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to partner with FHLB to multiply the impact of our contribution and provide $60,000 to United Way of Southern Colorado. Recovery from a disaster like the Aspen Acres Fire does not happen overnight. This will be a long road for many families, and we want them to know that Minnequa Works is here for every step.”
Since the Aspen Acres Fire began impacting the region, Minnequa Works has worked to respond through a variety of community and member-support efforts. The credit union’s focus has remained on meeting people where they are, providing immediate assistance while also looking toward the longer-term recovery needs of affected families.
By partnering with United Way of Southern Colorado, the contribution will help place resources in the hands of an organization positioned to identify local needs and support families as they recover, rebuild, and navigate the months ahead.
“This partnership represents what can happen when organizations come together around a shared commitment to community,” Cape added. “The cooperative spirit behind credit unions is rooted in people helping people. Together with FHLB and United Way of Southern Colorado, we have the opportunity to turn that philosophy into meaningful action for our neighbors.”
Minnequa Works Credit Union has served Southern Colorado since 1937 and continues to prioritize investments that strengthen the communities where its members live, work, and raise their families.
