Minnequa Works Credit Union Mobilizes Support for Southern Colorado Families Impacted by Aspen Acres Fire

Pueblo, Colorado

As the Aspen Acres Fire continues to impact Southern Colorado communities, Minnequa Works Credit Union has activated multiple relief efforts to support members, families, and first responders affected by the disaster.

The fire has created significant challenges for residents across the region, with Minnequa Works estimating that more than 180 member households are currently located within the evacuation zone.

“Southern Colorado is our home, and during times like these, neighbors come together to support one another,” said Nathan Cape, CEO of Minnequa Works Credit Union. “Many of those impacted are our Members, our friends, and our families. We are committed to standing alongside them throughout both the immediate recovery efforts and the long road ahead.”

Emergency Financial Relief

Minnequa Works immediately activated its Emergency Loan Program to provide financial assistance for members facing urgent needs. The program offers qualifying members loans of up to two months of income with repayment terms extending up to 18 months. Several emergency loans have already been distributed to impacted members.

Additionally, the credit union is providing Skip-a-Pay options for existing loan holders residing within the evacuation zone to help ease financial burdens during this difficult time.

Supporting Families and First Responders

Donation collection efforts are underway at all Minnequa Works branch locations. Community members are encouraged to contribute essential items for evacuated families as well as supplies for firefighters working on the front lines.

In support of these efforts, both Minnequa Works Credit Union and the Minnequa Works Helping Hands Foundation have made direct contributions to aid relief and recovery initiatives.

Presence at the Disaster Assistance Center

Minnequa Works has also established a presence at the Disaster Assistance Center located at the Pueblo Arts Academy (formerly Pitts Middle School). Team members have been on-site providing care items, financial guidance, information about emergency assistance programs, and emotional support for individuals and families navigating uncertainty and loss.

“Our role goes beyond financial services,” Cape added. “Sometimes support means helping someone by listening to their story and simply being there when they need someone most.”

Looking Ahead: Recovery and Rebuilding

Recognizing that recovery efforts will continue long after the fire is contained, Minnequa Works is developing additional programs to assist affected members with rebuilding and long-term recovery. Minnequa Works Credit Union remains committed to supporting Southern Colorado throughout every phase of recovery.

“This is Southern Colorado. This is Home,” said Cape. “We will continue doing everything we can to help our members and community recover, rebuild, and move forward together.”
